Childhood Sweethearts Win Sainsbury’sTrolley Dash Prize Draw

 Trolley dash 2 couple only

Brian Gabbedy and his wife June were thrilled to get a phone call from Sainsbury’s telling them their ticket had been picked out in the prize draw and offering them the chance to spend two minutes filling a trolley in their store with as much produce as they could grab.

“I was amazed. I only bought two tickets and they were the last in the book. I didn’t think for a minute that I’d win!” said Brian who lives in Radstock.

Brian, 72, and June, 73, decided that they would be more suited to a trolley saunter rather than a trolley dash!  To save the couple from having to dash around in two minutes, Sainsbury’s Midsomer Norton’s Store Manager Paul Broad generously presented them with a £150 gift voucher plus a lovely bouquet of flowers and a bottle of whisky - Brian’s favourite.

They turned out to be very apt winners as Brian is a registered carer himself. June has limited mobility, due to a condition called migratory panniculitis, and cannot really get about on her own. As they live at the top of a steep hill, this can make things difficult for them both.  The couple have been together for over 50 years, having met at school at the age of 15. Nearly 60 years later they are still together and setting a great example to their own adult children.

Brian copes with his caring role without any support from outside agencies. Their daughter lives in Frome and is on hand to help out when needed and they have good neighbourly support as well. However, he knows that as time goes on, he may need more help and Crossroads Care Wessex is there to help if that happens.
